NEWS BRIEFING: Blasphemy victim dies in hospital
Christian man Nazir Gill Masih died in hospital today (3rd June) after being beaten by a mob in Sargodha on 25th May.
The news was announced today by a nephew of the Christian man, according to Dawn.com, who also reported that Mr Masih’s body was being returned to Sargodha for his funeral this afternoon.
Mr Masih, who was in his 70s, was being treated at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi, where he had undergone two surgical procedures, but succumbed to his head injuries according to Regional Police Officer Sharik Kamal Siddiqui’s spokesperson.
Extremists attacked Mr Masih and his son on Saturday 25th May, blaming them for burning the Qur’an after damaged pages of the Islamic holy book were found outside their house in Sargodha. The mob also looted and set fire to Mr Masih’s home and factory.
Authorities booked more than 100 men for the attack on Mr Masih and also opened an official blasphemy case against him.
